Historic Bridges Hit Ten in Sussex Transport Cup Rout

Three Bridges produced a truly unforgettable performance under the Jubilee Field lights on Tuesday night, equalling the club’s biggest-ever victory with a 10–0 demolition of Wick FC in the Sussex Transport Cup. The original record — a 10–0 triumph over Pagham back in January 2005 — had stood unchallenged for almost two decades, but this rampant Bridges side wrote their own chapter into the club’s 124-year history.

With Bridges flying high in the league and Wick arriving from a division below, expectations were naturally tilted in the hosts’ favour — but few could have imagined just how ruthless the evening would become.

First-Half Brilliance Sets the Tone

The crowd had barely settled before Reece Hallard opened the floodgates in the 4th minute, cutting inside from the left and thundering a trademark finish beyond the visiting keeper. That early strike set the rhythm, and Bridges never once eased their grip.

The lead was doubled on 20 minutes thanks to a moment of vision from Harvey Woollard, who threaded a perfect through ball to Bryan Villavicencio. The in-form midfielder applied the calmest of finishes, continuing his electric run of form.

Five minutes later, Hallard delivered something extraordinary: a long-range rocket from 25 yards that cannoned off the bar on its way in — a strike that will certainly be in the conversation for goal of the season. At 3–0, Bridges were flying; at 4–0, they were soaring. Another majestic Woollard pass split the Wick defence in the 27th minute, this time sending Nabeel Ghannam through to grab his deserved goal.

Just before the interval, Bridges capped off a stunning first half with a sweeping team move. Villavicencio burst through on goal but showed unselfish composure to square for Kevin Rivera, who finished with ease to make it 5–0 at the break.

Relentless After the Restart

If Wick hoped for respite in the second half, they didn’t find any. Bridges maintained their hunger, tempo and precision, and the goals kept flowing.

A foul on Josh Hallard in the box in the 51st minute handed Ben Holden the chance to step up from the penalty spot — which he dispatched with confidence to make it six.

Rivera added his second of the night in the 56th minute, reacting quickest after a Charlie Bennett effort was parried into his path. Bennett soon got in on the act himself, and Bridges’ seventh goal was followed swiftly by their eighth, courtesy of Hayden Velvick in the 66th minute after yet another flowing team move.

Bennett then delivered a delightful lob in the 69th minute for 9–0, before capping off his own lively cameo in the 75th minute by chasing down the Wick keeper, blocking the clearance and rolling the ball into the empty net for the historic double-digit finish.

At full time, the scoreboard, the performance and the atmosphere all told the same story: this was a special night at Jubilee Field.

The victory sees Bridges storm into the last eight of the Sussex Transport Cup, and with the team currently sitting top of the Isthmian South East Division, confidence across the squad is sky-high heading into a crucial run of league fixtures.
