Bridges Crash at Home

Whilst Bridges are suddenly going through a bad patch with three consecutive defeats,second from bottom Phoenix are making a good effort at avoiding relegation and they thoroughly deserved their victory at the Jubilee Field.

Indeed, but for two late goals by the home side, Phoenix would have won as comfortably as their overall performance deserved.

Bridges could point to missing top scorer Dan Perry through suspension and defender Tad Bromage through injury, but there was no excuse for how open they were for the visitors’ opening goal after eleven minutes. A Bridges corner came back to Curtis Gayler, whose solid effort was well blocked. But Bridges only had one defender to counter the swift break from former Bridges favourite Luke Leppard and Roberto Ratti. Leppard came away with the ball and squared to an unmarked RATTI, who beat Mitch Bromage with ease.

Bromage made a couple of decent interventions before his defence were outnumbered again in the 28th minute, RATTI supplying the finishing touch again with a fine shot.

Two enforced half time changes did little to help the home side, although Kevin Rivera did force Charlie Martin to a save. But after 54 minutes, Leppard was again the provider with a cross that left RATTI with a simple tap in to complete a well earned hat trick.

Rivera saw another effort held and Charlie Lambert headed wide before RYAN BRACKPOOL found himself free to head home from close range in the 83rd minute.

And an unlikely comeback seemed possible when BRYAN VILLAVICENCIO stabbed home in the final minute of the ninety. But Bridges couldn’t conjure about up an equaliser, which would have been unjust against their determined visitors.
