Peter Ranson has died

Former player, Peter Ranson, has died

Sad to report the death on Saturday (9th) of Peter Ranson, the older of two Ranson brothers (Paul being the other) who played for Bridges.

Peter was a cultured player who numbered Crawley Town and Horsham amongst his previous clubs. Although he could also operate in midfield and as a sweeper, the vast majority of his 328 appearances for Bridges were in the right back position during the 80’s. He was able to pick out team mates with long balls as well as neat short passes, and he also had a great sense of humour. On one occasion the team were at the Saffrons, home of Eastbourne Town.

Eastbourne had a reputation of God’s Waiting Room at the time and there were plenty of senior citizens amongst the home supporters. One took umbrage as Peter broke up an Eastbourne attack and threw a cup of tea in Peter’s direction. Peter refused to be intimidated and merely asked if the supporter wouldn’t mind adding a sugar next time!

‘Ranno’ was only 61 when he died and he will be missed by everyone that knew him. RIP Peter.

Peter Ranson’s funeral will be on Tuesday 26th January at 3:45pm at Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Crawley, RH10 3NQ. A service will also be held in the St Richards Chapel.
