Three Bridges Women vs Burgess Hill Town

Even in lashing rain, Three Bridges Women’s composure remained strong as they won yet another consecutive league fixture, leaving them three points clear at the top of the SCWGFL Premier Division.

The bleak weather could not deter the Bridges fans, who still showed up in force to witness the team’s dominating performance and win against Burgess Hill Town Women for the third time this season.

It didn’t take long after kick-off for the Bridges Women to establish their calm within the game. After just five minutes, a shot was taken at goal after Daisy Ratcliffe saw an opening from the edge of the box. The shot was taken but just missed the goal by inches.

Burgess Hill’s box came under continual pressure as Bridges found space after space amongst a sea of opposition. Ratcliffe took another shot at goal, but her effort was dismissed after the goalkeeper knocked the ball over the crossbar.

With half-time closely approaching, Bridges remained fighting for their much-deserved advantage. A strong link-up in the box between Grace Bate and Isabella Farooqi looked to create this needed opportunity, but unfortunately it was denied by the keeper.

As the second half commenced, the weather was not on Bridges’ side as the rain intensified, increasing the fight they had to put up to take on Burgess Hill’s goalkeeper.

Within minutes, a cross from Holly Hunt to Martha Behr allowed Behr the space to have a shot at goal. The shot was on target; the keeper dived towards the ball but could not get an immediate grasp. The ball was loose and the goal open, but before Bridges could get the ball back under their control, it was knocked out of play.

No better word than determined could describe the Bridges’ performance. Minutes after this narrow opportunity, the side were able to gain a much-deserved goal by Hunt, slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Bridges maintained their composure throughout the remainder of the game, keeping calm on the ball and creating multiple strong passes, proving why they are top of the league.

The match finished 1–0, and with this seventh consecutive league win, the team can remain confident that the quality of their performance will carry them into their next home match against Mile Oak in the SCWGFL Challenge Cup quarter-final.
