Bridges Dire Display

A poor performance by Bridges helped to give Beckenham an easy three points. The visitors started well enough with Brannon O’Neill spraying passes around contentedly, but Leo Anderson was soon called into action with brave blocks to deny Bradley Goldberg and Nick Curran, whilst Danny Waldren headed over a good chance.

Bridges almost stole the lead midway through the first half when Camron Lawson turned well and was just over with a long range shot. But, after 35 minutes, Anderson again did well to parry Walden’s effort only for LOUIS THEOPHANOUS to slam home the loose ball from three yards.

Kieron Pamment came close to an instant equaliser, and he and O’Neill gave goalkeeper Nick Blue comfortable saves as the second half got underway. O’Neill also tested Blue with a swerving effort, whilst at the other end it needed a great block to deny Theophanous a second goal.

But after 58 minutes a poor clearance by Tad Bromage fell to Harvey Brand, who quickly threaded the ball back into the path of THEOPHANOUS to easily beat Anderson.

Only Kevin Rivera and skipper O’Neill seemed to pose much threat going forward for the visitors, the latter firing just wide with Blue well beaten for once, but Theophanous wasted the chance of a hat trick as mistakes started to creep in ominously in Bridges’ back line.

The referee had showed remarkable restraint by keeping his cards in his pocket, but a reckless challenge by Conner Collcutt ended with him being shown a yellow along with the furiously protesting Beckenham skipper Waldren.

Pamment and Collcutt both tested Blue in rare attacks by Bridges, but four minutes from time they were caught far too easily as Beckenham charged forward with JAMARIE BRISSETT supplying a simple finish.

Not an afternoon to remember for Bridges with one supporter wondering what had happened to the spirit they’d displayed in their recent F.A.Cup run.

Bridges Man of the Match – Kevin Rivera.

This Saturday Bridges face another tough away assignment when they visit Cray Valley PM.
