Champions Crowned in Historic Triumph for Three Bridges

Three Bridges FC produced the most iconic result in their 125-year history on Saturday, securing a famous 2–0 victory away at AFC Whyteleafe to clinch promotion from the Isthmian South-East Division to the Isthmian Premier — and spark scenes that will live forever in the hearts of everyone connected with the club.

This was more than just a win. This was history. This was destiny. This was a Three Bridges side delivering on everything they’ve promised all season — and then some.

From the very first whistle, Bridges played like a team that refused to be denied. Knowing that three points would seal the title, they came flying out of the blocks. Inside 11 minutes, both Hayden Velvick and Noel Leighton had already threatened, with Leighton seeing the ball in the net only for the assistant’s flag to deny him what looked like an early opener.

Whyteleafe, to their credit, remained dangerous on the break, and it took a superb save from Sam Roberts to keep out Hassan and preserve parity. But there was a sense it was only a matter of time.

That moment arrived in the 41st minute — and it was written in the stars. The tireless, electric Hayden Velvick whipped in a sensational cross, and who else but Noel Leighton rose to meet it, powering home his 31st goal of the season — and his 99th for the club. Cue absolute bedlam from the travelling Bridges supporters packed in behind the away bench, erupting in pure, unfiltered joy. Half-time couldn’t come quick enough for Whyteleafe.

If the first half was controlled, the second was relentless.

Bridges came out with even more fire, even more hunger — and in the 53rd minute, they all but sealed immortality. Reece Hallard slipped Velvick through, and the winger showed incredible determination, refusing to be denied as he forced the ball home at the second attempt. 2–0. Game over. Promotion secured — and everyone inside the ground knew it.

From there, Bridges did what champions do. They managed the game with authority, composure, and a confidence that has defined this incredible side all season. As the clock ticked down, the noise from that same pocket of travelling support behind the away bench became deafening — chants of “Champions!” ringing out, songs echoing into the afternoon, and a sense of something truly special unfolding.

And when the final whistle blew… chaos. Beautiful, emotional, unforgettable chaos.

Players, staff, and supporters came together in scenes that can only be described as pure footballing joy — laughter, tears, limbs everywhere. Chairman Paul Faili, like so many, couldn’t hold back the emotion as this extraordinary achievement finally became reality.

This is a season — and a team — that will be spoken about for generations.

Massive credit must go to the management trio of Jamie Crellin, Joe Kay, and Ross Ball, who have built not just a winning side, but a relentless, fearless, and united group that fully deserve their place in the Isthmian Premier Division. And the scary thing? This feels like just the beginning.

The celebrations are far from over. They return to home soil on Saturday 18th April, as Three Bridges host AFC Croydon Athletic in their final home game of the season — where the champions’ trophy will be presented. Kick-off is at 15:00… but don’t expect the party to end any time soon.
